Tanya Nguyen grew up in Vietnam with a love of art and an almost obsessive attention to detail. "I was the littlest girl in the school with the biggest backpack. I always had to have all of my art supplies with me and they all had to be in exactly the right place." In retrospect a career in design would have seemed an obvious destination, but the path to Studio Tanya was not so direct.
By the early 80's, Tanya (now living in the United States) had become a certified accountant in the State of Maryland, and had also received a certificate from the International Institute for Interior Design in Washington D.C. However, she ultimately opted for the more 'practical' route. Over the next decades her work in finance would not only hone her attention to detail, but more importantly it would allow her the opportunity to live and travel extensively in Europe, especially Italy and Russia, where her love of art and architecture was reignited.
Although her passion for art and design in all its forms remained constant throughout her life (in her twenties she was known to stay up all night designing and sewing her own dresses for special occasions), it wasn't until Tanya worked on the renovation of her own home that she truly began to consider a career in design as a viable option. Now, after working with Lien Luu, Ltd., a noted interior designer and childhood friend based in New York City, Studio Tanya LLC has become a reality.
Tanya's design philosophy derives from both her personal tastes and experiences: a blend of the cleanliness and practicality of contemporary life with a hint of a softer classical elements and various ethnic and cultural sentimentalities. |
